We Can Help You File a Talcum Powder Lawsuit

In recent years, studies have shown a link between the use of talcum powder and cancer, specifically ovarian cancer and mesothelioma, though other forms of cancer have been identified in talcum powder litigation. According to various lawsuits, manufacturers of talcum powder were aware that the talc used in creating these products was contaminated with asbestos, a known human carcinogen, yet they did not take any steps to warn the public.

If you were diagnosed with ovarian cancer or mesothelioma, or if your loved one died as a result of cancer, after using talcum powder or other talc-containing products, you could be entitled to compensation. At Ball, Kirk & Holm, P.C., we are currently representing plaintiffs in talcum powder lawsuits and mass torts throughout the state of Iowa. We are dedicated to obtaining justice on behalf of victims and to holding manufacturers who prioritize profits over public safety accountable for the widespread, irrevocable harm they have caused.

If you believe you may be eligible to file a talcum powder lawsuit, contact our team at (319) 220-0416 today and request a free, no-obligation consultation. We offer representation in Waterloo, Iowa City & the rest of the state.

Who Is Liable for Talcum Powder-Related Cancer?

In 2018, a Reuters news agency released a shocking report that claimed that Johnson & Johnson, one of the world’s largest consumer health products manufacturers, was aware for decades that its talcum powder products contained traces of asbestos. According to the report, Johnson & Johnson knew that several of its raw talc and talcum powder products (including baby products) tested positive for asbestos traces on multiple occasions as far back as 1971 up to 2003. The report alleges that internal reports and memos reveal that the company knew of the risks associated with asbestos exposure, including exposure caused by the trace amounts of asbestos in its products, yet did nothing to warn the public or even disclose the information to consumers.

Though Johnson & Johnson has repeatedly denied the claims, it issued a voluntary recall on certain baby powder products in 2019 after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found traces of chrysotile asbestos in the affected products. Currently, Johnson & Johnson pure talc and talcum powder products are still available for purchase in the United States.

Johnson & Johnson is not the only company that has been identified in reports connecting talcum powder and other talc-containing products to various forms of cancer. Others, including Johnson & Johnson talc suppliers, have been named in different reports and lawsuits.

Talcum powder lawsuits have also named the following manufacturers and entities:

  • Colgate-Palmolive
  • Imerys Talc America
  • Vanderbilt Minerals

As of today, plaintiffs have recovered more than $5 billion from Johnson & Johnson alone in talcum powder-related cancer litigation. Much of this litigation has centered on the company’s Shower to Shower and baby powder products, though other talc-containing products have also been involved.

What to Do If You Believe Your Cancer Diagnosis Was Caused by Talcum Powder Use

If you were diagnosed with cancer after using Johnson & Johnson talcum powder, or if your loved one died from cancer after using a talc-containing product, you could be eligible for compensation. The first and most important step in working to recover this compensation is reaching out to an attorney who has experience handling these types of cases. The success of your claim depends on many factors, including proving that your or your loved one’s cancer was directly caused by the use of talcum powder or a talc-containing product. This can be very difficult, as cancer is extremely common and can be caused by exposure to a wide range of carcinogens.

At Ball, Kirk & Holm, P.C., our Waterloo talcum powder lawsuit attorneys have extensive experience in representing individuals who have suffered the devastating consequences of manufacturers’ wrongful and dangerous actions. We are able to meet with you, listen to your story, and, if necessary, conduct an exhaustive investigation into your claim to determine whether you are eligible for compensation.
